Algae are super-tiny organisms that can grow in both fresh and salt water and are packed with proteins, carbohydrates, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Like plants, algae turn CO2 into sugars. Because all they need to grow is light, CO2, heat and a small amount of nutrients, the cultivation of algae is super easy and future proof. The Algae Bar is an interactive installation in which you can become part of the lifecycle of the algae. Human breath contains heat and carbon-dioxide, which are valuable resources for young algae.
We invite you to lay down under the specimen-table and donate your CO2 to the algae above you while listening to an essay about aquatic life or performing a breathing exercise on the bubbling sound of your cooperation. When donations have reached a satisfactory level, you will receive a fresh algae shot, smoothie or cocktail in return! The Algae Bar is a project by Eat Art Collective.
The Algae Bar is an interactive installation where the visitor is hooked onto the lifecycle of algae. A fish tank with algae lights up the whole room and is thus a beacon for future foods. Alga’s Bar is a short circuit of the food chain as an homage to the humble beginning of it. Laying down under our specimen-table whilst listening to an essay on aquatic life, a breathing exercise or the sound of a bubbling cooperation, visitors donate their time and breath to the algae above them. Human breath contains heat and carbondioxide, valuable resources for young algae. In return, the algae nourish the visitors in the shape of a fresh alga shot, smoothie or cocktail when donations have reached a satisfactory level.
