Watch the aftermovie
Eindhoven is a city bursting with creativity, innovation, technology and design. With the industrial district of Strijp-S and the Dutch Design Week as international attractions, high-tech and design are constantly helping each other to develop.
The city challenges its residents to embrace new opportunities in their daily lives. During the CWF, Eindhoven addresses the pressing question of how new technologies can be used and how the desire to promote interaction between people can be met. During the morning programme you can choose between different interactive sessions from changemakers who will inspire and challenge you with the following questions:
- Creativity is essential, but how can younger and older generations make the most of it?
- How can traditional cultural institutions, such as libraries and museums, use technology to serve visitors with different needs?
- How can virtual reality and augmented reality influence musicians to be creative and the public to experience music?
- How can we use natural materials and vision for the well-being of our planet?
In the afternoon, we will visit one of the World Design Embassies of Dutch Design Week. These Embassies offer new future perspectives and possible solutions for societal issues. Instead, you can also join the workshop at The Ontdekfabriek in collaboration with SPARK Makers Zone. Learn how to fly and dream big. Set foot on actual realization of these bold ideas!

Biomimicry: natures unlimited database of R&D for developing sustainable materials
developing sustainable materials inspired by natural nanostructures
Bio^mi is convinced that education about biomimicry and biological nanostructures is key and a good way to inspire students to start working with bio-inspired innovation. Therefore we formed collaborations with several forms, disciplines and levels of education.
During the meet-up you will get an introduction in to the world of biomimicry and we will present an update of the latest results of our bio nanostructure research.

In this session, we will introduce Fabricating Alternatives and let you experience a taste of this co-creation methodology, whose key outputs are: inventions, or tangible prototypes that exist in this alternative/fictional reality; interventions where these inventions are placed in a specific part of our reality (ie. a public space or an institution).
Micro hackathon domain swap
MAD emergent art center is hosting a micro hackathon domain swap session. The goal is to develop quick creative, but disruptive solutions and concepts in teams of 3 people from different domains – and in doing so experience and learn the power of this format.
Creativity is invoked by altering perspectives, turning things around and alienating the known. This is exactly the purpose of this micro hackathon – to come up with innovative solutions through an unexpected and unknown process. At the end of the hackathon the teams demonstrate their solution to a camera that is live streaming on social media. The number of likes is counted as the public vote, and all teams are rewarded with a surprise.

What if we can use this waste in new means? What if the cause of this junk is also its context for re-applying it? In other words: we want to research the potential of these materials in a context of temporary constructions and spaces.
During several field trips to construction and production sites we created a material library of all kinds of waste. In this session we’ll dive into this data collection: images and experiences of field trips, alongside our material library full of samples and experiments. Within small groups, we’ll use everyone’s background and expertise to imagine possible future applications of the various samples, materials and opportunities that emerge from our research project. Goal of this session is to stretch our imagination and to create a joint catalogue of possibilities, in order to change the ‘fast-and-efficient’ view of the conventional construction world into a fresh perspective.
Social inequality puts ethical and executional limits on how far and how fast we can go. It can be identified as an unwanted side effect as well as an obstacle for progress. If we say we want progress, (urban) social inequality needs to be on our agenda. Over the past decade Eindhoven-based and streetwise social design foundation Tante Netty has built up wide-ranging experience in addressing in-addressable social issues together with artists and designers.
To be able to work towards empowerment and social cohesion, perception of identity and ownership within the target audience are key. This special CWF session starts with a 20-minute plenary introduction by Madelon Strijbos on how Tante Netty addresses issues that people usually shy away from or seemingly don’t care about. She will introduce the Quality-to-Impact model which has been developed based on the learnings of years of social design experiments, projects, programs, interviews and analyses. It illustrates five core qualities for successful social design projects according to Tante Netty.

Dream big, make a change
SPARK Makers Zone and the Ontdekfabriek join forces in an appealing workshop on 22 October in Eindhoven where you learn to fly and dream big, and set foot on actual realisation of these bold ideas.
Dreams may be bigger when you are young, and fade out when you’re older. As we know more, we tend to actually do less with realising dreams. But let’s be real: the world needs dreams, in order to conquer the challenges we face today. SPARK and the Ontdekfabriek are convinced that dreaming big is a good idea, and start doing is the best option for today.
Join us at our workshop!
The workshop of SPARK en the Ontdekfabriek is part of the program of the Law to Preserve Creativity.
The Law to Preserve Creativity is a manifesto in which partners from education, the business community, care, culture and government bodies agree on how they wish to stimulate the creative development of every resident of the Brabant region.
On the 22nd of October Creating Connections will provide you with the opportunity to socialize and interact with countless of creative and inspirational people from all over the world. Guided by the sweet tunes of our band ‘Mission of Soul’ and DJ ‘Bung Law’ the vibe will be set to connect!
In this laid back atmosphere you will be instantly engaged to meet new people and experience unique, sometimes breath-taking, moments. With locally and globally renowned acts we intend to change your perception of what goes together and what doesn’t. Showing you that there always is a way to connect, create and change the world for the better!
