City of Helmond
Cathalijne Dortmans is Vice Mayor of the City of Helmond. Her responsibilities include Youth, Health and Education. She is also Chair of the Board of Brainport Smart District. She has previously held several positions within the Dutch national government.
Among others she worked as director/Secretary-General for the Council for Health and Society. Cathalijne has a master’s degree in English Language and Literature, and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Helmond is a city in the South of the Netherlands with more than 91.000 inhabitants and a characteristic identity. Let’s do it! That fits within the Helmond approach. The old metal and textile industry are the former heart of the city. Nowadays, Helmond is known for its high tech Automotive Campus and food industy. Apart from that, Helmond will build the smartest district in the world: Brainport Smart District.
This workshop starts with a presentation of Cathalijne Dortmans, Alderman in Helmond, on Brainport Smart District (BSD) and her vision on mobility. Furthermore, the workshop focuses on (un)limited mobility and the future of shared mobility.
The vision in this session is clear: Saif A. Al Khamissi, MSc. and co-founder at Studio Menta, explains how we achieve a safe BSD, with high air quality and enough space for dialogue. Therefore, we need to reject privately owned cars in BSD and stimulate suburban parking via hubs. The transport in the district (and from the hubs) should be provided by an autonomous shuttle bus, (shared) bicycles, cargo bikes, by foot and by electric cars.
