Choreographer & artistic director
Another Kind of Blue
Choreographer David Middendorp, artistic director of Another Kind of Blue, holds a unique position in the dance world: he knows how to combine live performance and virtual dance in a unique way like no other. Middendorp is fascinated by technology and especially by the tension between technology and mankind. Questions such as how technology influences our lives, the threats of technology and in which way man differs from a machine form the artistic principles of his representations. Animations, drones, robots, film and music play a special and equal role with the dancers.
Middendorp integrates technology and dance, lets these elements merge seamlessly and harmoniously and creates an alienating world. His unique mix of dance and innovative technology provides an inspiring and innovative dance experience. You’ll get the change to see his Airman show during the opening of CWF2019!
During The Opening
Airman is a unique project that Middendorp started working on in 2011. It represents the culmination of his dream to synthesise dancers and technology. Helped with the expertise of technical partners Sioux LIME, ASC Innovation and Luchtzinnig, Middendorp creates a compelling duet between dancer and drones. Through real-time interaction, the flesh and blood dancer allows the drones to adopt human form and consciousness; this is incredibly exciting and challenging choreography, both for the dancer on stage as well as the technicians backstage. You’ll get the change to see his Airman show during the opening of CWF2019!
