Company New Heroes
Lucas De Man (Belgium, 1982) graduated from the KU Leuven with a master’s in literature in 2004. He immediately applied to the Amsterdam University of the Arts (NL) to become a Theatre Director and won the Matthijs Prize a young talent stipendium from Artemis and Young Talent Award from Theater aan Zee (BE) before graduating in 2008.
Lucas is founder and artistic director of Company New Heroes, a professional creative company. The goal of Company New Heroes is to create, connect and encounter yourself, the other and the world. Company New Heroes has three divisions; multidisciplinary storytelling, creative concepts & execution and biobased creations. Next to that he works as a (freelance) director, actor and concept developer. He presents several art shows on Dutch national television. He often hosts large and small events in the Netherlands and Belgium, lectures and teaches.
In 2011 Lucas and designer Pascal Leboucq were nominated for the renowned Wijnberg scenography award for their installation SKETCH. Lucas was awarded the honorary title city artist of Den Bosch from 2012-2016. In 2016 the performance De Man in Europe was selected to open EUROPE BY PEOPLE, the cultural program of the Dutch presidency of the EU. It was shortlisted as Best Show of the 2015/2016 season by TheaterFestival in the Netherlands and Belgium. And Lucas himself was shortlisted as EuroDutchman of the year. Host, tv-presenter and artistic leader of New Heroes Lucas De Man welcomes you to a pleasantly high paste show about the wonderful world of Biobased Creating. He’ll take The Growing Pavilion as an example: the 100% grown landmark that you can visit at the Dutch Design Week.
With The Growing Pavilion New Heroes shows the possibilities and above all the enormous beauty of Biobased materials. Lucas will provide a lecture performance full of new insights about creating with natural materials. There will be live guests from different disciplines (architecture, construction and design), pioneers who are inventing and working with exciting new sustainable materials such as mycelium and bioplastics made from algae. After this session you’ll end up tons with of inspiration for a Biobased future and with a lot of energy to start building together.
