Marianne Aarnoudse

Programme manager

World Design Embassies

Marianne is the programme manager of the World Design Embassies (WDE). WDE is a programme organised by Dutch Design Foundation, exploring together with partners societal changes and the role of design in the development of new perspectives and tangible, workable solutions.

WDE can be visited at various locations during Dutch Design Week 2019, from 19 to 27 October in Eindhoven. After two successful editions World Design Embassies now manifests itself at Dutch Design Week for the third time. In collaboration with partners and designers WDE explores complex, social changes. If you choose to be part of the HUB Eindhoven programme on 22 October you will visit one of the six Embassies (see below) in the afternoon.

For each of the six themes the Embassy offers a programme with exhibitions, presentations, workshops, lectures and debates. Marianne Aarnoudse will tell you all about the Embassies during the opening in Eindhoven on 22 October.

What are the new roles of law enforcement and how can civilians contribute? How can designers contribute to current safety issues? This embassy concentrates on research and experimentation and attempts to answer the broad question ‘Is safety a right?’ from multiple perspectives.

Embassy of Mobility

The paradox of (un)limited progress

How do we shape mobility in the future and what does this mean for the planning of our public spaces? Themes that will be investigated are for instance mobility as a service (MaaS), densification of smart and social mobility solutions in cities, alternatives for non-smart rural areas, the station as a hub for future travelling, accessibility & quality of life and carbon-neutral travelling.

Mobility as a means, not an end. Focus on people, do not make the same mistakes as in the nineteen-thirties, when cities were developed for cars instead of for people. More information about the World Design Embassies can be found here.
