Peter Kok - Creating an Inclusive Library

The paradox of (un)limited inclusiveness

Everyone deserves the opportunity to develop their talents and participate fully in society. To be able to do so requires both knowledge and imagination. The Library encourages and enables the creation and sharing of knowledge and stories. Furthermore, the Libraries’ extensive collection is enriched with a programme full of wide-ranging activities. These activities come about through intensive collaborations with numerous organisations and local residents. From meet-ups about current local themes to courses on how to become more digitally skilled, there are activities to meet everyone’s wishes. Since 2019 the Library – with Seats2meet and Kunstloc Brabant – is located in the LocHal in Tilburg, a new, world-class urban living room that was recently named one of the four best libraries in the world by the IFLA.

‘An increasing number of people cannot participate sufficiently in society. Equipping these vulnerable groups is one of our core tasks. In an accessible public place such as the Library, everyone can take a next step in their development.’ Peter Kok, director Bibliotheek Midden-Brabant.
