Superhighways for cyclists
The goal of Schiphol is to facilitate 10.000 cyclists per day by 2024*. More integration is needed between physical infrastructure, supporting services and social behavior. BAM, Schiphol, Microsoft and OrangeNext are working together on the realization of a ‘digital twin’. The digital twin is currently missing, but crucial for the Hoofddorp – Schiphol – Amsterdam cycle superhighways.
Through technological developments we are better equipped/prepared to create increasing interaction between the user and his or her environment. Concepts such as the green wave at traffic lights, adaptive speed support for speed pedelecs, pre- and on-trip route information, smart lighting and warnings in unsafe situations could be realized.
