Thom Aussems (1951), born in Tilburg, The Netherlands. ‘Transformation’ is the central issue in his professional career. After he finished his master degree in the law at the University of Tilburg (1974) and community work at the Social Academy in Eindhoven (1975) he got’s involved with urban renewal projects. In the eighties he switched to the municipality of Rotterdam, in that period the most famous lab in the field of urban renewal.

After ten years he started his own consultancy for different customers. The last 15 years he’s the CEO of Trudo, a housing association in the region Eindhoven. Under his inspiration Trudo introduced a lot of leading transformation projects, such as the urban renewal of several old neighbourhoods (Kruidenbuurt, Woensel-West), the Lighttower in the center of the city and Strijp S (the former industrial plot of Philips), but also the estate of ‘de Broeders van Liefde’ (a former boarding school in a 300 acre estate) and the creating of new hamlets in the countryside (instead of mega stables with pigs and chickens).

In the meanwhile he got’s his degree for Master Real Estate (1992) at Amsterdam School of Real Estate , Master Financial Economics (1997) and his MBA (2001). at the Tilburg University. He was also teaching at the Technical University of Eindhoven, the University of Amsterdam and the Academy of Architecture in Rotterdam. His most recent publications are: ‘Transformation Strijp S’, ‘Urban complexity, case Eindhoven’ and ‘Boeren en beta’s’.
